Stormwater Solutions Workshop: Heron Meadow

Take a tour of Heron meadow, learn from water expert Michael Laurie and Ken Miller about different simple techniques Vashon Nature Center is implementing to slow down and clean water before it goes to Judd Creek, including: working with a mix of biochar/compost/woodchips, and creating compost socks. Participate in a hands-on project to clean stormwater in the meadow before it reaches Judd Creek. As climate change increasingly brings more intense storms to our area in the winter months, you can add to island climate resilience by implementing simple solutions on your property that slow down and clean the rain allowing it to fill our aquifers rather than washing into Puget Sound.  Michael Laurie has been working as a Sustainability Consultant on thousands of projects for over 40 years. For the last 25 years he has specialized in stormwater, water efficiency, and landscape irrigation. In the last 6 years he has worked on over 40 stormwater projects on Vashon.

This workshop is supported by grants from Rose Foundation, King County Waterworks and 4Culture and is FREE and open to all.
