Student Internships
Summer marine science internships for high school students offer experience, skills, and connections to provide career pathways during the next stages of their lives. Internships are field-based on island shorelines with variable days and times centered around specific tidal heights required for research. In addition to being part of a research team, time is dedicated to peer networking and other activities guided by group-interest.
2024 Internships – Application Window opens February 23, 2024; closes March 30th, 2024. Announcements made by April 19th, 2024.

Volunteer
Community Science
Community science is at the heart of all we do at Vashon Nature Center. We believe involving community members in scientific monitoring and data collection helps remove science from the ivory towers of institutions and universities and puts it right on the dinner tables of our friends and neighbors. Community science volunteers contribute to valuable data collection for the benefit of Vashon-Maury islands and the entire Salish Sea. To learn more go to our projects page.

Maury Island Aquatic Reserve Citizen Stewardship Committee
The Maury Island Aquatic Reserve is one of eight aquatic reserves in the state managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources. The management of each reserve is guided by a local citizen stewardship group (CSC) The Maury Island Aquatic Reserve CSC helps organize beach cleanups, community science projects, the Low Tide Festival, and helps address local concerns as they arise. Vashon Nature Center coordinates this committee and anyone is welcome to join. Contact us if you’d like to help shape how we care for and learn from the Maury Island Aquatic Reserve.
