Chum Chuck

What: Vashon Nature Center volunteers will help Puyallup Tribe Fisheries and Port of Tacoma replenish salmon nutrients in a tributary of the Puyallup by “chucking” spawned out chum carcasses from the Puyallup Tribe hatchery onto the stream banks. This has been shown to increase fish returns in streams. No one knows exactly how it works but it likely has something to do with getting the ocean derived nutrients from salmon back into the system. Puyallup Tribe fisheries biologist Angela Dillon will join us and talk a little about salmon and salmon conservation before we chuck the chum.

When: November 29th from 1:30- 3 pm, we will get the 12:10 ferry off Tahlequah

Participants should bring boots, gloves, and dress for the weather. We will carpool to the site as parking space is limited. So, let us know if you are willing to drive others.
