This exhibit has been a journey of heart work for all of us at VNC. It introduces Vashon Island natural history. We invite you to explore the intertwined stories of humanity and nature in marine, forest, stream, and shoreline environments as you take a trip through geologic time. Vashon was carved by glaciers and is sculpted by storms. The local aquifer provides our drinking water and defines how we grow. The moat that surrounds us, whether filled with the freshwater of ancient Lake Russell or the salt water of Puget Sound, creates a tension between isolation and connection to the larger Salish Sea. Our water boundary shapes island culture and ecology. It also provides a unique perspective that can help us address today’s environmental challenges.
The exhibit will run from November 5th, 2021-June 2023.
