Pigeon Guillemot Surveys
Pigeon Guillemots are known as the “canaries in the coal mine” of Puget Sound health. These social, playful seabirds are important indicator species, telling us a lot about both the state of the marine and shoreline ecosystems and the strength of connection between them.
What: Help us monitor Pigeon Guillemots nesting and feeding behavior! During the surveys, you’ll count the number of birds, observe their behavior, and record the food they catch.
When: Surveys are conducted once a week in the mornings from June to August. There will also be a online training session on May 14th via zoom.
Why: The data we collect contributes to the Salish Sea Guillemot Network, helping to expand our understanding of the life habits and range of these important seabirds.
