Become a Trout Tracker!

Join us in our first year collecting quantitative data on spawning coastal cutthroat trout on the island! Cutthroat trout are an integral piece of stream networks and are plentiful in island creeks, even more than salmon. However, they’re often overlooked and understudied. To help us better understand the role and habitats of trout in our ecosystems, volunteers will walk the reaches of the creeks documenting the presence of trout once a week from February to May.

There will be a in-person training day on Sunday, January 28th, 2024 at 10:30am at Tahlequah creek where we will go over protocol and distribute kits. We ask all new volunteers to attend this training.

There will also be an evening talk on trout presented by Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife Scientists! If you’d like to learn about trout click this link.
