Get Involved
Community involvement is key to the success of Vashon Nature Center. As a community-driven organization with thriving partnerships, our strength and joy are in connection. All are welcome.

Community Science
Involving community members in scientific monitoring and data collection helps remove science from the ivory towers of institutions and universities and puts it right on the dinner tables of our friends and neighbors. Community science volunteers contribute to valuable data collection for the benefit of Vashon-Maury islands and the entire Salish Sea. Sign up to join us on our events page.
Educational Programs
Do you have a background that ties into our programs and an interest working with students? Contact maria@vashonnaturecenter.org to find out about upcoming opportunities.
Maury Island Aquatic Reserve Citizen Stewardship Committee
Participate in the management of The Maury Island Aquatic Reserve, one of eight aquatic reserves in Puget Sound managed by the Dept. of Natural Resources. Help organize beach cleanups, community science projects, the Low Tide Celebration, and address local concerns as they arise. Vashon Nature Center coordinates this committee and anyone is welcome to join. Contact us to learn more.
Student Internships
High school students ages 16 and above can apply for our summer marine science internships to develop field research skills, and build connections to career pathways. This field-based internship focuses on shoreline monitoring and includes a varied schedule centered around tidal heights required for research. In addition to being part of a research team, time is dedicated to peer networking and other activities guided by group-interest.
2025 Applications open Feb. 4th, 2025. Applications must be received by March 18th. Notifications will be made by April 10th.
