Education is central to Vashon Nature Center’s mission. We offer hands-on field science programs to K-12 schools, public workshops, youth programs, professional development for educators, naturalist training, and college internships.

Workshops and Trainings

Naturalist workshops educate community members about a variety of nature topics.  Including:

  • Beginning Mushroom identification, with Danny Miller
  • Lichen and Moss identification, with Pheobe Giot
  • Introduction to Nature Observation, with Mallory ClakeBeach
  • Naturalist Intensive, with a panel of guest lecturers
  • Teacher Professional Development – Watershed Wade-thru with Bianca Perla and Maria Metler

Professional Development

Vashon Nature Center experts provide specialized training on a variety of nature subjects. We can work with your organization to design a workshop to fit your needs. Examples include naturalist trainings for nature guides, wildlife awareness and safety, professional development for teachers, native plant and winter stem identification for landscapers, Puget Sound island ecology, and best planting techniques for restoration professionals.
