Mussel Watch

Help us deploy mussel cages at two sites on Vashon Island on November 14th, 2023 at 9 pm. This is part of the Toxicology monitoring program at Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Every other year teams of volunteer scientists hit the beach at night to deploy cages of mussels in the nearshore environment. The mussels grow until February and then are collected by volunteers and sent to a lab at WDFW where they are assessed for multiple contaminants and toxins. This helps identify longterm trends in pollution of Puget Sound and identifies areas that need the most help. Learn more here
