Join our Hour for the Earth on Earth day!

Happy Earth Day to all of you. We want to thank all who are part of our Vashon Nature Center community for sharing your wonder for nature with us on our social media groups, in daily life as you participate in community science programs and for all you do on your own properties to hold space for nature and support the health of our wild neighbors. You all give us hope and delight our hearts. Take a moment today to feel the connection to this community and to nature.

“Give thanks for what you have been given. Give a gift, in reciprocity for what you have taken. Sustain the ones who sustain you and the earth will last forever.”

Robin Wall Kimmerer, scientist, author

April 22nd is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! And we want to celebrate! Everyday, nature gives us sustenance, inspiration, adventure, wonder, and so much more. Let’s join together in community with each other and give some love and tending to the earth!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Pick an Earth Day activity. It can be anything you want that benefits the Earth. We include some ideas and resources in this blog post. It must be at least an hour but can be longer if you’d like!
  2. Go here and register to pledge your hour for the earth before 5 pm April 22nd so we can keep track of how many participate.
  3. Do your activity!
  4. You can post a photo of your activity on Instagram #vashonnaturecenter #hourforearth or on our Facebook group or you can email it to us: wonder@vashonnaturecenter.org
  5. If you donate at registration you will be entered into a drawing to win a kayak adventure from Vashon Adventures for 8 people!
  6. At the end of the day we will draw the winners out of a hat and announce the total numbers of hours worked for the Earth by our awesome community!
For their hour for the earth Kairos and Ela Lamblin and Leah Mann pulled scotch broom on their property and made this beautiful earth art! Thank you for your inspiration Kairos, Ela, and Leah! Look for more photos from others as this event progresses. You can find them or post your own on instagram #vashonnaturecenter or Vashon Nature Center facebook group, or email them to us at: wonder@vashonnaturecenter.org
